Mike Nieman, founder of Nieman Printing Company, has been named the recipient of the 2016 Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica’s Visionary Award.  Selected by a committee of his peers, the award recognizes an industry leader for their business acumen and leadership within the Dallas/Fort Worth print and graphics community.  Prior winners include Jerry Williamson (Williamson Printing Co.), Chuck Chalifoux (ColorDynamics), and Robert Johnson, Sr. (Johnson Printing Services).

A graduate of University of Texas at Arlington, Nieman began his business venture in 1976 with a car and capital of $3,000 borrowed from his father-in-law.  Starting with a small duplicator press and a focus on the print broker (independent sales representative), the company has grown to occupy a 120,000 square foot state-of-the-art print facility with over 185 employees. Several of Mike’s employees have been with the company since its creation with many employees having a tenure of over 10 years.

As with many companies in the print and graphics industry, a variety of family members are involved.  His brothers have been employees for years and his wife Joanie, who is now the company’s CEO, joined him over 20 years ago.  His son Matt, who grew up in the family business, is now the company’s COO.

When asked about his success, Mike says, “You can’t have a clear vision, if you don’t have your scope in focus.”

Nieman will be honored on the evening of April 19th at the annual Graphex Awards Gala which will be held at the Perot Museum in downtown Dallas.  For information about the Graphex Gala, visit the Association’s website.
